DARKROOM
Portals, Aberdeen, Scotland
Saturday July 24th 2004
Hahaha. Defiantly in running for the maddest funniest weekend of the year......
I was really looking forward to this party as I hadn't been up to Aberdeen for a few years and there all a great bunch of mad party heads up there.
THere hasn't been a hardcore party in Aberdeen for over 3 years so I thought it best if I played a 2 hour old Scottish bouncy hardcore set to ease people up there back into it and especially if it was going to be a new crowd, a full on mad hardcore set ay scare people away !!
Left work at 15:30 to go to Newcastle Airport for ma short flight. Had the usual customary pre-flight drinks of snakebite & blackcurrant accompanied by the Viz.
Time for the flight at 17:40. Just a small bat, looked like a dart. Canny little airline as well, Eastern Airways. I had a small bottle of white wine and a nice glass of champagne on the short 45 minutes. Halfway into the flight I needed a wee-wee so asked the Aeroplane-Dolly where the netty was. She said it was at the back of the plane and I had to pull a nob to open the door which would seal it of from the rest of the cabin. So, off I trot. Couldn't find nowt obvious so was pressing and pulling loadsa buttons, making things beep and mad cupboards open and also tried to open the emergency exit which gave the trolley dolly a fright "no no, don't touch that ! " ha. Eventually found the handle with help from the dolly and siphoned the python. Came out and the dolly was waiting laughing with her mate, heh.
Touchdown at 18:30 !
Smart little funky airport Aberdeen like. Got greeted by Katie-Gabba, sister of Trash Colly, the promoter of that party.
Her mummy had given her a lift and she said Katie pointed and said she was standing over there behind a pole. I walked passed the pole and went up to a mad old lady and said "Hello Mama-Katie", heh, it wasn't her.
Back at Katie's and met Stoxy from Northern Ireland and Paul, originally from Dundee but living in London. Time for a power nap before we hit the streets of Aberdeen (the party was on the Saturday).
Couple of beers before we left and we headed up the Town around 8:30 I think. Armed with a stack of GGM stickers we headed for the first pub, Triple Kirks. Had a bottle of orange Reef to get my taste buds into action, then 2 Aftershocks. NOw, the next thing I remember is waking up in bed on Saturday morning, hardly able to move, with around 56 bruises and 37 cuts ! !
I will let Trash Colly explain what happened in his words (taken from the Scottish Hardcore forum)...
This last weekend has been one of the most insane in a long time, here's what remember ....
~ Friday 11pm .. the start .. i finished work , had to bomb home as my sister , stox , smurf and a whole host of others were waiting for me (at triple kirks). The first thing i saw in the pub (before i seen the hardcore people) was GGM STICKERS on every thing and one, EVEN THE BAR STAFF! (always a good sign when GGM logo's are on display).
i met up with the people , got some aftershocks (they were waiting for me .. 4 for a £5) so idowned a few ... looked about for smurf . . . but he was in the toilet "taking a shit". as soon as he came out .. the madness started ... haha we had some aftershock .. but it made him run into the ladies to be sick, after that though it was party time .. we were wrestling and jumping about , some woman was goin mental cos smurf kept bumping into her and the bouncers and barstaff kept telling us to wise up .. but it was to late ... and time to go to a club.
We walked doon the the street (belmont street , loads of good drinkin places) got refused from "The Priory" and "Kef" but we got into "cafe drummonds" one of Aberdeens LIVE music venue, and they had some official Nirvana Tribute Band (they were quite good as well) after some more beer, me and smurf went on a bit of a rampage on the dancefloor , running into ppl and being cunts on the dance floor, smurf was breakdancing, doing spins and faceplants, after some of that smurf started looking for his records (which were at my sisters house .. safe) and climbed on stage , and started staggering about behind the band .. totally oblivious to the fact they are playing to a packed venue! , i was at the front in absolute fucking stitches ... then he came back over ,, started shouting at me and got me up on stage as well.. and he started looking for his records again .. then some huge dude came over swearing and shouting at us and pulled me off stage ... but smurf just walked to the other side of the stage ... and stayed their ... until the dude came and dragged him off (he was going insane!) smurf started shouting at the sound men .. trying to get in to the sound control bit, saying he is a dj and needed his records .
~time to leave drummonds!~
Next club to be refused from ... "liquid"
Next club we tried was "drum" (Aberdeens hardstyle/ hardhouse club), we got in their easy , got in, had more aftershocks, and a bit of a bounce on the dancefloor , and smurf started looking for his records, and going mad because he was suppost to be djing ...no matter how much we told him, he wouldent believe us, kept making me take him to the dex , which i knew was a bad idea, but i ended up giving in , he want up, and kept trying to open the door to the dj booth, he made about 3 attempts then got angry , started goin mad, i went to the toilet , came back and he was GONE. i looked about the Club a few times , some ppl said he got thrown out .. and he did, and was gone ! after maybe 20 mins of me runnin round aberdeen town centre, i found him in a kebab shop, got some kebab and started to walk , to where, i don't know, by this time i was totaly obliterated! but i do remember, we were wrestling on Belmont Street , hardcore style, using street signs for maybe 30 minutes, then we started walking again, ended up in front of triplekirks again, and i had to be closelined over the fence into the chuckies and glass shard, which started another bout of hardcore wrestling.
Eeded up outside my house , but never went in, just
headed to my sisters ? (its all a blur) i know we got their, and all broke
into another bout of wrestling in one of her rooms , the dude paul, me, katie
and smurf were going mad ... with a folding wooden chair,, i know i was van-daminator'ing
people with the chair, katie and paul double teamed me and put the chair on
my leg and jumped on it (i thought it was broke) it all kinda ended when i
gave the dude paul the "F'U" (wwe's john cena's finishing move)
on to a bed, and completly broke the bed (paul was kinda broke by it as well,
all part of the fun though).
After that Everyone kinda fell asleep .. i fell asleep on a set of plastic
skittles, i cant even remember falling asleep ! woke up with a pillow under
my ehad, and a blanket at like 8 am, still very drunk! got a taxi home and
went to bed for a few hours .... to prepare for thesaturday Darkroom Marathon!
Somehoe lost my watch in all the above chaos, ha ha.
I cant remember non of the above !! I have the slightest recollection of looking for my records and eating a kebab off the floor.
Eventually managed to get out of be about 6:15 pm. Big Craig has arrived from Edinburgh and we headed into Town to the venue where the party was for around 7pm.
A couple of headache tablets for my concussion and some Red Bull and I started to feel a bit better.
The venue was a smart room above a pub in the centre of Aberdeen. The boys set the sound up and sounded cracking.
All the old faces started arriving who I'd never saw for ages, Triple D (who done an awesome hard as nails Gabberdeen live PA ! !), Gabba Doogal, Og Van Dam, Mike Blackbeard, Steph, RuffDoug, Adz, Sound Off, grr, many more whose names I forget. Fuckin brilliant seeing all those mentalists again and good to see not one of them has calmed down, haha. Excellent man!!
THe party started to fill up nicely and ended up being just over 100 people being there which was an excellent turn out !
I think Stoxy played first playing newstyle gabba followed by RuffDoug who ended his set doing some excellent scratching over a Syndicate breakbeat track and then Mike Blackbeard done some more excellent scratching, show offs, heh ! Excellent chaps !
9pm came and it was my turn to play. THe deck were those fancy Vestax decks which I have only ever used once before last NYE in Stirling. I fucked up my first mix which was Dippedy Day of the oldskool techno track Dukkha. Its a quick mix so you don't have time to get the 2 tunes in sync. Never mind !! It took me about 3 or 4 mixes to get used to the pitch. As I said above, I played an oldksool Scottish bouncy set with a few Ruffnecks and Scottish party anthems which got the place and the decks bouncing !! Respectacles to the dancefloor squad !!
Around 21:40 the Edinburgh Gabba Mafia arrived, Monkey Sean, Gareth The Sprout, Loo, Kenny Boy, Neil & Laura. Good to see yooz up there Brothers, Sisters & cousins !! They wasted no time taking over the place and stomping around as usual!
Sprout Boy, Dougie RuffDawg, Triple Dee Gaberdeen
& Trash Colly

Money Sean & a name I forget !!

Hands up, baby hands up - Gaberdeen Maniacs - ??,
Dee & Trash Colly
Steph took over after me playing a nice techno set and I suffered memory loss again!!
Triple Dee and Smurfy on the throne

Cant remember who played after that. 2nd last to play was Triple Dee, who demolished the place with his Gaberdeen PA and mad MCing which had the crowd going mental. Sound Off finished the night off with yet more relentless hardcore !!
Fuckin tremendous night !!! Even the old bar manager enjoyed it !! Who, is lush for an old woman like, zing !
Cant remember how we got back to Katie Gabba's. Had a couple of yella fella's (cans of Tennants) and went to pass out.
Smurfy & Neil and the horny rabbits
HLA - Hot Lesbian Action !!! The lovely Jodey and her pal ...
Everything in Katie's flat had a GGM sticker on !
Sweaty Camp Cowboy Kenny and the boy Paul
Eventually managed to leave in one piece for the 16:00 flight back to Newcastle.
Many thanks to Katie for the hospitality and and lend of the horny rabbits !
Respectacles to Colly for the party and all the Gaberdeen nutjobs & the Edinburgh Gabba Mafia for making the journey up.
Take care chaps, all the best for the future and I will be back up there as soon as I can !
